traces

stories written upon this town

"traces" is a locative media work delivered on mobile phone via 3gp video file and bluetooth, exploring the relationships of people, memory and place. In it, the environments we move through- the streets, bridges, the parks and buildings of Sydney’s CBD - reveal themselves as sites rich with meaning, traced over with both personal and shared narrative.

In "traces", 6 people reveal 6 true stories that have occurred in specific locations in Sydney - Luna Park, Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Oxford St, Circular Quay and the Anzac Bridge. A postcard map identifies the sites where the experiences took place. People follow the postcard instructions and view the stories while contemplating the locations, either from the Opera House forecourt, or at their convenience on their phones.

Audiences are encouraged to submit feedback on the "traces" narratives, or submit their own vivid experiences that have occured in a Sydney location, via voicemail, SMS or email.

where

"traces" is being exhibited at the Opera House Studio as part of dArt 05 / Mobile Journeys exhibition. Exhibition open Tuesday to Sunday from August 8 to Sept 2.

type of phones

"traces" requires phones with bluetooth and video playback capabilities. More recent model 3g phones are likely to support the files more readily. If you don't have a 3g phone, there's a good chance you may be able to borrow a phone at the dArt exhibition venue.
